Mission in Portugal is a planned Christian retreat destination near the historic city of Tomar, in the heart of Portugal. Set within approximately eight acres of peaceful Portuguese countryside, the vision is to create a lasting place of Christian welcome, prayer, worship, rest and spiritual renewal.
At the centre of the project are two existing properties and a small chapel. The intention is to sensitively develop and restore the properties in the character of traditional Portuguese cottages, creating comfortable and welcoming accommodation while respecting the rural setting and architectural heritage of the area.
Accommodation will be available within the two properties on the site, providing a place for individuals, couples, families and small groups who wish to step away from the demands of everyday life. The retreat will offer opportunities for personal prayer, Christian fellowship, quiet reflection and rest. Silent retreat periods are also planned according to a future programme and schedule.
The small chapel will form the spiritual heart of Mission in Portugal. It is intended to provide a peaceful setting for prayer and Christian worship, including regular Sunday worship as the mission develops.

Mission in Portugal is currently at the planning and development stage. Considerable work remains to be completed before the retreat can become fully operational.
Plans include the restoration and improvement of the two properties, development of guest accommodation, work to the chapel, landscaping and preparation of the grounds, together with the installation and improvement of the services and facilities needed to create a safe and welcoming retreat environment.
The project has been initiated and funded by Thomas Paul, together with the generosity of other contributors and Christian donations. However, bringing the complete vision to life will require further financial support, practical assistance and the involvement of people who share the desire to establish a lasting Christian retreat in Portugal.
Fundraising will therefore be an important part of the next stage of the mission.
An important part of the vision is that Mission in Portugal should be created for the long term, rather than simply for the benefit of its present founders or supporters. The intention is for the project and its assets ultimately to be held in trust, with an appropriate structure established to protect its Christian purpose and help ensure that the retreat remains available for future generations. In this way, those who contribute today will be helping to establish something intended to continue well into the future: a place where people can come to pray, worship, rest, reflect and reconnect with their Christian faith.
There is still much to do, and donations and offers of assistance are most welcome. Support may take many forms. Financial donations can contribute towards building and restoration costs, the chapel, accommodation, essential services and development of the grounds. We also welcome offers of practical help, professional expertise, materials, equipment, fundraising assistance, prayer and Christian partnership. Every contribution, whether large or small, can play a part in turning this vision into reality. If you would like to support Mission in Portugal, contribute financially, offer your skills or simply learn more about the project, we would be delighted to hear from you. Together, we hope to create a lasting place of Christian faith, hospitality, peace and renewal in the heart of Portugal.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
